Our Mission

Friends of RCC Forensics is dedicated to working with Riverside Community College in sponsoring students by providing incentives and support for the speech education program and competitive activities at the three RCC campuses and K-12 schools within the College’s district. All who subscribe to this Mission are warmly invited to join in these efforts.

A Little About Us

The Friends of RCC Forensics group traces its founding philosophy back to the ancient Greek courts, political meetings and drama festivals during the first flowering of democratic societies. Some of the world’s first great teachers, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, helped to popularize the concept of “persuasion, beautiful and just.” It is a maxim we still follow to teach students to understand themselves and the society in which they live. The Early Greeks coined the term “forensics” for the broadly inclusive type of communication that exists in speech classrooms, intercollegiate competitions, and tournaments today.

The Friends of RCC Forensics began when alumni of the College’s forensics program joined with community members to assist RCC forensic teams. Recently the “Friends” have expanded this program of community support to include aid to teachers and students through training, competitions, and festivals in local elementary, middle, and high schools. Today, the Friends of RCC Forensics offers communication opportunities to students in the Alvord, Corona/Norco, Jurupa, Val Verde, Moreno Valley, and Riverside school districts.
